The original vehicle is a commercial fully electric RWD Ford Mustang Mach-e, model 2021. It has been retrofitted to the automated version by CERTH in collaboration with Virtual Vehicle Research GmbH (VIF) from Austria. The retrofit was funded 100% by the European research program SHOW, GA 875530 (H2020-DT-ART-2018-2019-2020 / H2020-DT-ART-2019).
To enable and support the automated driving functions, the vehicle has been equipped with various perception sensors, onboard processing computers and telecommunication modules.
While in automated mode the vehicle perceives the environment around it with the use of four (4) LiDARs and eight (8) cameras installed in specific suitable positions, providing 360o sensing coverage of the neighbourhood around the vehicle both in near and more distant field.

CERTH / HIT’s AV has already been tested in real life traffic conditions, co-existing with other traffic. It provided last mile robo-taxi services to passengers in Trikala, operating in mixed open traffic conditions, within the SHOW project pilots.
