Within the framework of the "Journey to the Transportation of Tomorrow" event organized by the Hellenic Train S.A. a Memorandum of Understanding was signed today between HIT/CERTH and the Ferrovie dello Stato Italiane S.p.A., group, in the presence of the Minister of Infrastructure and Transport K. Karamanlis, Minister of Finance Ch. Staikouras, Secretary General of Transport I. Xifaras.
The goal of the Memorandum of Understanding is cooperation for the promotion of sustainable mobility, new "smart" technologies, digital methods for railway safety and maintenance, and the dissemination of scientific studies of intermodal mobility and "intelligent systems". On behalf of HIT/CERTH, the Memorandum of Understanding was signed by the Director, Dr. E. Bekiaris. In his statement, Dr. Bekiaris mentioned that this new initiative will enable the rail transport to once again become the synonym of rapid and comfortable transportation.
The event was also attended by the Minister of Economy and Finance of Italy, Mr. D. Franco, the Ambassador of Italy in Greece, Mrs. P. Falcinelli, the President of Hellenic Train Dr. D. Lo Bosco, the CEO of Hellenic Train and Country Manager of Greece, M. Capotorto, the Chairman of CERTH Dr. D. Tzovaras, as well as the Research Director of HIT/CERTH, Dr. G. Ayfantopoulou.
