YOUNG RESEARCHERS’ AWARD FOR ROAD SAFETY
The Hellenic Institute of Transport (HIT/ CERTH), the main Greek research Institute in transport sector, and one of the most important and most recognized pan-European organizations, has introduced two new annual Road Safety Awards since 2018: “Young Researcher’s Best Publication on Road Safety" and the" Best Actions on Road Safety" awards. This year's awards are presented together with HELLASTRON and the Hellenic Institute of Transportation Engineers (HITE).
On Friday, October 12, the first award of “Young Researcher’s Best Publication on Road Safety" was awarded during the 7th Pan-Hellenic Road Safety Conference co-organized by the Hellenic Institute of Transportation Engineers and the Department of Civil Engineering of the University of Thessaly in Larissa.
The award was given to Apostolos Anagnostopoulos and Foteini Kehagia for their work titled "Turbo-roundabouts as an alternative to roundabouts in terms of traffic safety, capacity and pollutant emissions”. The selection of this year's first Young Researchers’ award was made by the three bodies (HIT / CERTH, HELLASTRON and HITE).
According to the director of HIT / CERTH, Dr. Evangelos Bekiaris, "the reason for choosing this year's awards is matching perfectly the objectives of the Road Safety Awards, which are to highlight best practices for promoting road safety, both at a scientific and organizational level, so that they are widely applicable in the country."
