A tender has been launched for the development of the Suburban Railway Network in West Thessaloniki, a project that has been studied and promoted by HIT/CERTH through RAIL4SEE project (www.rail4see.eu) in which HIT participated during 2012-2014. Within the framework of the RAIL4SEE project, HIT conducted a preliminary feasibility study to investigate the feasibility and viability of a new rail service, of suburban character in West Thessaloniki, and in cooperation with the Municipality of Thessaloniki, promoted the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding for the promotion, technical maturation and implementation of the project: "Western Suburban Railway Thessaloniki" between all involved municipalities and stakeholders.
