At the 3rd and 4th of July 2019, the 4th Inter-Connect project’s meeting took place at Port of Bar headquarters. The meeting offered the occasion for discussing the advancements of the project’s activities and in particular, on the state of the art of the different case studies focussing on how to improve and promote the passengers transport intermodality in the ADRION Region.
The results of the technical activities conducted by the Inter-Connect partnership showed how weak is the passengers’ intermodality demand among the ADRION Regions. This is also one of the main reasons of the poor offer of sustainable, reliable and frequent transport connections among the different ADRION countries. Moreover, the Inter-Connect case studies showed that it is possible to work on promoting both transport demand and offer of cross boarder connections by working on new sustainable transport solutions, ticketing integration, better connections among maritime and terrestrial main transport hubs.
The results of the Inter-Connect local dissemination events and round tables held in each Inter-Connect countries demonstrated that the main local, regional and national stakeholders are aware of these aspects and that they are ready to create new collaborations and agreements in order to overcome the cross-boarders transport bottlenecks.
The President of the Port of Bar, Mr. Deda Delovic, welcomed all the Inter-Connect partners and introduced the technical sessions by showing the importance of the project in promoting better sustainable transport solutions in the Adrion Region.
CERTH/HIT, technical coordinator of the project, presented the results of the data collection activities (transnational and regional/local transport demand and supply data), based on the survey designed at transnational level for addressing tourists’ and locals’ connectivity needs and experiences. Based on the achieved results of the project, CERTH/HIT presented the key political and technical conclusions on which the next technical activities will be based.
The Institute for Transport and Logistics (ITL) and the Emilia-Romagna Region coordinate the activities on the assessment of all the Inter-Connect case studies. Following the defined assessment methodology, each partner presented the advancement of its case study’s implementation. The final part of the session was dedicated to the potential transferability of the project’s results and on how to turn the main lessons learned into policy recommendations for all the ADRION area.
The CEI-Executive Secretariat presented the implementation of the technical round tables held in each project’s countries and the guidelines for the preparation of the next round tables, focussing more on the operative aspects of the case studies implementation. Moreover, the CEI-Executive Secretariat, responsible for the project communication and dissemination activities, gave an overview on the implemented and remaining actions, highlighting the importance of promoting the project’s main results outside of the project partnership.
Lastly, the Municipality of Igoumenitsa, project lead partner, presented the administrative and financial progresses as well as the implementation of the technical work packages of the project. In particular, the lead partner highlighted the importance of the cross-border collaboration in promote more sustainable and reliable transport connections in the ADRION region.
