Vision:
To make HIT the main and integrated Research Pole in the fields of Transport, Sustainable Mobility and Tourism in Greece and among the top 10 relevant nodes of technology and expertise in Europe.

On the 24th of January 2020, a Memorandum of Understanding was signed by the Deputy Minister of the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transportation, Mr. Yiannis Kefalogiannis, the Director of the Hellenic Institute of Transport of the Centre for Research and Technology Hellas (HIT/CERTH), Dr. Evangelos Bekiaris and the Chairman of the Hellenic Association of Toll Road Network, Mr. Stavros Stavris, with the aim to reduce fatalities from traffic accidents. The purpose of this cooperation is to collect, assess and exchange data on Road Safety issues of all rode types.

Road evaluation and certification with international protocols

Through this Memorandum of Understanding, it will be possible to evaluate all roads upon request in order to be accredited for the internationally recognized EuroRAP protocols. At the same time, each road will receive “stars” according to their security condition.HIT, as the coordinator of the EuroRAP National Program, undertakes the responsibility to develop the final reports with the results and relevant recommendations for every road.

As stated by Dr. Evangelos Bekiaris, "The correct implementation of the EurorRAP protocols in Greece will directly contribute to the certification and upgrading of the quality and safety of our roads.
