Acronym: RESKILLING
Project Title: Research initiative for Enhancing and Adapting Workforce SKILLs for Implementing TraNsport Automation with Employment Growth
Duration: 36 months (01/01/2025 – 31/12/2027)
The deployment of Connected, Cooperative & Automated Mobility (CCAM) is set to revolutionise the transport sector, offering exciting new opportunities while presenting significant challenges, particularly concerning employment and workforce adaptation. While automation has the potential to reshape the job market, it also offers the opportunity to create new roles, enhance working conditions, and foster a more diverse workforce, including women, young people, the elderly, and individuals with disabilities. To ensure a fair and inclusive transition, it is essential to provide robust social conditions, reskilling initiatives, and attractive job opportunities throughout the sector.
Funded by the European Commission under the Horizon Europe programme (GA No. 101147328), the RESKILLING project unites 20 leading partners across the fields of CCAM, education and training, skills development, and social innovation. By adopting a social innovation-driven approach, the project ensures that workforce development is not limited to technological advancements alone. The initiative explores the full spectrum of CCAM-related professions and engages a wide array of stakeholders, applying a Social Sciences and Humanities (SSH) approach throughout its entire duration. The RESKILLING Co-Innovation Framework fosters collaboration among professionals, experts, and beneficiaries to develop sustainable, context-specific solutions.
Objectives:
Our mission is to empower Europe's mobility workforce and businesses by equipping them with the skills needed to thrive in the evolving landscape of CCAM. By supporting skill development and upskilling initiatives across the CCAM value chain, we aim to minimise potential negative employment impacts while unlocking new socio-economic opportunities. Our strategic research and interventions ensure that individuals across the mobility sector can actively engage with and benefit from this transformation. More specifically, our objectives are as follows:
- To establish a robust and dynamic community of stakeholders across the entire CCAM value chain, fostering collaborative development of project outcomes and promoting wide-reaching outreach, multi-layered replication, and the uptake of project results.
- To conduct in-depth research into the short-, medium-, and long-term employment and socio-economic impacts of CCAM development.
- To help businesses and workers mitigate the negative effects of CCAM, leveraging the opportunities presented by its deployment in both passenger and freight transport, thereby driving sustainable employment growth and enhancing society's capacity for social innovation.
- To ensure the necessary skills are developed and scaled across a diverse range of sectors within the mobility field.
