Acronym: BIFICATION (https://bicification-project.eu/)
Project Title: Supporting modal shift and bicycle use through gamification and rewarding
Duration: 12 months (01/01/2022 – 31/12/2022)
Description & Objectives:
BICIFICATION aims at supporting a modal shift towards green, active mobility through a reward-based gamification program, by proposing an advanced solution (TRL9) consisting of patented hardware and software for monitoring and rewarding bike trips reliably.
Registered users receive monetary rewards by the local authorities, while cities benefit valuable and reliable trajectories data. Local shops are also supporters of the scheme, as they provide discounts based on the collected points. Thus, an additional benefit for the local communities is the promotion of purchases from local shops.
During the project, 1,500 users in Braga, Istanbul and Tallinn, 3 different cities that are making great efforts to promote active mobility, will participate. The aim is the adoption of the system by 100,000 users in 90 cities in the next 5 years. The project is co-funded by EIT Urban Mobility.
HIT key role and responsibilities: HIT is very experienced in implementing research projects about promotion of active mobility using behavioral change techniques, due to its participation in the i-bikeshare, Motivate and e-smartec projects. Due to this experience, CERTH/HIT will coordinate the project activities, it will contribute in the state-of-the-art analysis, in the assessment of the pilots using data analysis techniques and it will finally develop a guidebook for cities regarding how to extract knowledge from the bicycle trajectories data.
