Acronym: G4G

Project Title: Green for Good

Duration: 24 months (01/08/2025 – 31/07/2027)

Description:
The G4G project is funded by the Interreg VI-A IPA Greece – North Macedonia 2021–2027 Programme. Its objective is to promote the transition towards a circular and resource-efficient economy in the cross-border area between Greece and North Macedonia (Strumica, Gevgelija, Valandovo, Radovish, Dojran, Novo Selo, Thessaloniki, Thermi), through capacity building of competent authorities and stakeholders for designing services that support a low-carbon economy and enhance resilience to climate change.
The partnership consists of two organizations from North Macedonia — the Centre for Development of the South-East Planning Region and Megjunarodna Sorabotka Jug Jug Podruznica Skopje — and two from Greece — CERTH/HIT and the Municipality of Thermi.

The project includes the following activities:

  • Development of a network of 8 electric vehicle fast chargers in the target area
  • Installation of 5 photovoltaic systems on both sides of the Programme
  • Procurement of one electric mini bus for the Municipality of Thermi
  • Establishment of 2 pilot urban gardens in Radovish and Thermi
  • Creation of a living lab / green education center for the climate-neutral era (Green Education Centre / G4G Living Lab)
  • Establishment of a cross-border monitoring committee with more than 30 stakeholders, to oversee joint actions promoting sustainable mobility and cooperation among local actors.

Project Objectives:

  • Promote a sustainable, circular economy in the Greece - North Macedonia cross-border region, with emphasis on reducing carbon emissions and efficient resource use
  • Strengthen climate resilience through actions that support local communities’ adaptation to new environmental conditions
  • Support local stakeholders (local government, civil society, educational and research institutions) in delivering environmentally friendly services and actively participating in the green transition
  • Develop green infrastructure, such as an electric vehicle fast-charging network, photovoltaic systems in public spaces, and an electric mini bus, to support sustainable mobility and clean energy production
  • Enhance environmental education and awareness through the creation of Green Education Centre and the implementation of educational workshops and citizen participation activities
  • Foster cross-border cooperation through committees, joint plans, and the exchange of best practices among stakeholders
  • Encourage citizen engagement through pilot actions (e.g., urban gardens) that cultivate everyday environmental awareness.

Role of CERTH/HIT:
CERTH/HIT participates in the project as a partner, providing technical and scientific expertise:

  • Installation and operation of a fast charger at its premises in Thermi
  • Participation in knowledge transfer activities and organization of cross-border workshops
  • Development and utilization of sustainable mobility tools, based on experience from previous projects such as NEMO, KRIPIS, and eMaaS
  • Dissemination of project results through relevant networks.
