Acronym: SSTPAs in Greece
Project Title: Development of nine Safe and Secure Truck Parking Areas in Greece
Duration: 17 months (01/08/2020 – 31/12/2022)
Description: The Action aims to address the current lack of Safe and Secure Truck Parking Areas (SSTPAs) in Greece and to improve the safety of the national road network by developing nine SSTPAs along the Trans-European Core Network (TEN-T) in Greece as well as by developing an e-Service platform for optimizing the use of the developed SSTPAs.
The Action will develop nine SSTPAs for truck drivers, certified at ‘Silver’ standard level, for a total of 182 truck parking places, located in five different sites on the Core network along the Orient/ East-Med Core Network corridor. The Action will be implemented in line with applicable EU standard provided by the European Commission’s study on Safe and Secure Parking Places for Trucks (MOVE/C1/2017-500) and will comply with national safety standards adopted for road construction.
Moreover, in line with the Commission Delegated Regulation (EU) No 885/2013, the Action will develop an e-Service platform for truck-drivers, which will provide all the necessary information regarding the location of SSTPAs, their certification level and available services as well as enable pre-booking and pre-payment options for parking places. The e-Service platform includes the end-user platform (back office platform, mobile phone application and internet-based platform) and the data analytics tool (Neutral Statistic Services and dashboard).
Objectives: The objectives of the proposed Action are the following:
- Implementation of infrastructure for 9 Safe and Secure Truck Parking Areas in Greece in accordance to the common European standards.
- Certification of the developed Safe and Secure Truck Parking Areas by external certified auditors, 9 SSTPAs at “Silver” level.
- Provision of booking, payment and information services to truck drivers about the availability of parking places and the level of the provided services across the Trans-European Transport Network in Greece according to the needs identified in Commission Delegated Regulation (EU) No 885/2013.
HIT key role and responsibilities: The Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport acts as the project coordinator and CERTH/ HIT is one of the three Implementing Bodies. CERTH/ HIT is the technical advisor of the Ministry in this project and responsible, among others, for the development of the e-Service platform, the monitoring of the works in the SSTPAs aiming to their certification at Silver level, the development of the marketing strategy of the project and its promotion in Greece and abroad.
